To promote education and awareness on first aid, patients care and risk management to prevent and minimize casualty.

Understanding the need for standard and effective training in wilderness medicine for outdoor professionals and local residents in the Himalayas, Himalayan Medics was established to:

  • Promote wilderness medicine education and awareness.
  • Provide standard practical medical training and patient care in wilderness setting for professionals, recreationalists and the locals.
  • Impart the skills and confidence to manage the unpredictable and respond to medical emergency by providing necessary resources.
  • Establish foundation for Emergency Medical Service (EMS) in Nepal.

Dr. Nima Namgyal Sherpa (Founder / Managing Director)
Dr. Nima Namgyal Sherpa is a passionate adventurer with love and respect for the mountains, nature and wilderness. Combining his passion with his profession, he has worked as an expedition doctor on numerous expeditions, treks and rescues in the Himalayas, and travelled extensively at home and abroad. In addition to being a medical doctor, he holds a Diploma in Outdoor Education/Leadership from NOLS USA; Wilderness First Responder certification from Wilderness Medicine Institute NOLS, USA; a post-graduate Diploma in Mountain Medicine, MMSN Nepal, Diploma in Mountain Emergency Medicine, Institute of Mountain Emergency Medicine Bolzano Italy – approved by UIAA/ISMM/ICAR, Mountain Rescue Training Nepal/Italy; and Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine Elective from University Hospital of North Stratford and Mid Lands Air Ambulance UK .As well as attending to the needs of his clients and Sherpas in basecamp, he has accompanied them all the way to the summits of Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt. Manaslu (8163m), Mt. Amadablam (6812m), Lobuche East (6150m), Island Peak (6189m) and others during his career as an expedition medic.

Rajesh Lama (Executive Director )

Rajesh Lama (better known as just Lama), is a certified freelance trekking guide and outdoor instructor, with five years experience in the outdoor adventure field in Nepal. Lama loves the outdoors and adventure sports; spending most of his time trekking, rock climbing, mountain biking. He is certified in first aid and CPR from SOLO, School of Wilderness Medicine and the American Heart Association; Outdoor Leadership from Initiative Outdoor; Basic and Advanced Ice Climbing from Khumbu Climbing Centre and Basic Rescue as well as Basic Mountaineering from Nepal Mountaineering Association. Lama has great enthusiasm for learning, consistently striving to upgrade his skills and knowledge, and help others do the same as an instructor, guide, mentor or friend. His passion for Himalayan Medics stems from his respect for continuous learning, and his ultimate goal of promoting Nepal as the foremost adventure hub of the world
